I'm at a loss, folks. The girl that never fails to have too much to say doesn't know how to start her KAABOO Cayman day one recap except to whisper a breathless "wow" in between sips of her morning coffee. I am quite literally sitting under the palms, attempting to sum up an overwhelmingly wonderful jam-packed day while my mind races with all of the cool stories, goosebump-inducing musical moments and incredible photos from yesterday.
From an exceptional lineup to the stunning, well organized and perfectly flowing beachside setup? KAABOO nailed it. Featuring two alternating stages surrounding a central courtyard of colorfully lit palms, delectable food and beverage offerings, art and murals (some still being created; super cool), the culinary Palate stage and comedy tent. On the beachfront side, sandy lounges with hammocks and reclining chairs to enjoy the inevitably incredible sunset while sipping a crisp cocktail; a moment to relax in Indulgences before heading to the Bask club to enjoy DJ sets on the southern waterfront side.
If there was such a thing as the polar opposite of Fyre Fest, we've unquestionably found it. Day One in Grand Caymanian festival paradise went off without a hitch. So full of unforgettable moments, Caribbean surprises, delicious food and drinks and breathtaking music that I'm quite literally at a loss over where to start. We had pirates, we had Flo Rida spraying the crowd with Champagne and red roses. Bryan Adams wooed us, Maxi Priest brought an energetic reggae flavor to the Ironshore stage and we dipped our toes into the country world with Margo Price and Marin Morris. We slipped away to enjoy the culinary expertise of Palate stage while nibbling on cheese sandwiches - of the decidedly more upscale and delicious variety; hearty brisket and artisan grilled cheese with a crisp, ice-cold island craft beer. Out of this world. Returning to the Coral Reef stage, we lived a nostalgic moment with Counting Crows before the larger-than-life spectacle of flames, lasers and pyrotechnics - our headliners, The Chainsmokers. Utterly unforgettable.
On a faraway island, in the middle of the Caribbean ocean, KAABOO has pulled off it's initial day of their inaugural island festival. They almost made it look too easy; accessible, organized and expansive grounds with hidden surprises and great places to relax, revel and enjoy. A full festival experience that maintains the sense of intimate island chill. With so many diverse offerings, it's almost too much to take in. Except they've scheduled everything with flawless precision so you can, actually, taste a little of everything and not miss a moment of the incredible music. KAABOO has it figured out, folks and they're setting the festival bar high; very high. We're ready to jump into Day Two of KAABOO Cayman; kicking the day off with Salt-n-Pepa and Blues Traveler, Shaggy, Blondie, LIVE and Sean Paul. Can't-miss-comedian Wanda Sykes stops by and then it's off to Zedd, Jason Derulo and our long-anticipated headliners Duran Duran. Either I've now consumed too much coffee or this lineup will be the be-all-end-all music festival experience I'll be talking about in five year's time. I hazard to guess the latter. I'm buzzing. Let's do this.
